Regenerative Institute of Medicine
Dr. Smith-Fernandez along with her west coast partner Dr. Brown are two of the most uniquely trained integrated pain, musculoskeletal, spine and orthopedic medicine practitioners in the US.
IROM (Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine Institute) provides comprehensive orthopedic and spine, stem cell and regenerative medicine services. Our research affiliates and institutions are located in multiple locations across United States. Dr. Smith-Fernandez currently practices in Naples, FL. Dr. Brown currently practices in both California and Washington. In collaboration with Cell Particle Technologies, LLC we offer some of the most sophisticated stem cell technology currently available in the US. We strongly believe that our methods are a step above the stem cell technology used in most other regenerative medicine institutions. We also have gone to great effort to keep the cost of our treatments as low as possible.
We advise our patients to check out all of their options before giving us a call so that they can truly understand the level of expertise, service, and technology we provide. We have over 25 years of experience in orthopedic, sports, spine, musculoskeletal, and regenerative medicine services and technology. Behind the scenes of the institute we have a dream team of five physician specialists, all with expertise in various areas of orthopedic technology and research. Our institute is also working with a science and engineering team developing new technology. We are working on technology today for your benefit tomorrow.
At our institute, patient care begins with a comprehensive evaluation. We use advanced diagnostic techniques to sort out complex clinical problems. Our practice focuses primarily on various regenerative medicine technologies, including stem cell, orthobiologic, and other regenerative therapy interventions for patients with acute and chronic pain from spine, musculoskeletal, and orthopedic conditions.
We believe that successful treatment of chronic pain begins with a detailed understanding of the cause. Thus, our first goal is obtaining a precision diagnosis. Dr. Smith-Fernandez is a uniquely trained physician. Her background began in her subspecialty training as an anesthesiologist with fellowship training in interventional pain medicine, with regenerative medicine incorporated into her fellowship training. She has since gone on to continue training and certification in regenerative techniques and preventative health. She utilizes the technology of advanced diagnostic imaging, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, electro diagnostic medicine, and other technologies to reach a precise diagnosis.
Dr. Smith-Fernandez routinely performs interventions under fluoroscopic and ultrasound guidance. This provides real-time imaging for the evaluation of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and cartilage. With an accurate diagnosis, a definitive therapeutic intervention can be implemented.
Rather than ablative techniques, our approach is regenerative. Our methods are described further in the Patient Education section of this website.
Heather Smith Fernandez, MD
Board-certified anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained interventional pain medicine physician. Certified in advanced facial aesthetics by the AAFE, advanced aesthetics procedures utilizing autologous stem cells, and in bioidentical hormone replacement therapies as a certified BioTE provider.
Dr. Smith is also one of only two medical providers in the United States licensed to practice Interventional Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine (IROM), a proprietary, integrative pain therapy which primarily focuses on alleviating orthopedic and musculoskeletal pain when conventional medicine has failed. A complex, scientifically advanced approach, Dr. Smith spent 7 years post-residency training to learn this cutting edge specialty. Using her specialized training, Dr. Smith is equipped to evaluate even the most advanced musculoskeletal problems, offer a precise diagnosis and utilize regenerative medicine and tissue engineering principles to enhance proper function and achieve a complete recovery.
